What will you be doing?
We’re seeking a talented individual to join our Business Outsourcing team in Birmingham, which is responsible for the accurate processing of clients’ financial data and the preparation of annual financial accounts and associated outputs therefrom within the timeframe agreed with the client or required by statute. Liaising with the audit team to ensure that financial statements are prepared to a high standard and on a timely basis to allow audit procedures to be completed and key deadlines met.
As Assistant Manager, some of your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing annual financial statements including statutory accounts, predominately under FRS102. This includes consolidated financial statements for our group clients.
- Interactions with clients to undertake accounting work as required – both over telephone/e-mail and potentially occasional on-site client visits.
- Working closely with the audit and business tax teams to provide a seamless service to clients and ensure deadlines are met.
- Being prepared to share ideas about how best to operate the accounts preparation process in order to improve efficiencies for the firm.
- Client Portfolio - ensure that clients receive an efficient and proactive service and client expectations are exceeded throughout the year. Liaising with Clients, Partners and other S&W staff where appropriate to ensure all are kept up to date with relevant issues.
- Completing management and statutory accounts, including related services, and setting budgets - awareness of commercial aspects of clients’ business and impact on our work. Arrangement of timetable, booking of staff, planning and completion of management accounts, statutory accounts, VAT returns and other related assignments.
- New Client Take On Procedures - assist Head with embedding new clients into Smith & Williamson and within the client and staff portfolio, including work schedules.
- Department Administration - monitoring of billing/lock-up and staffing levels.
- Training and development – monitoring of staff performance, carrying out appraisals and ensuring feedback is given to staff on a timely basis. Ensuring appropriate in-house and external training received personally.
- Reviewing audited accounts prepared for the Audit team.
- Reviewing iXBRL tagged accounts once prepared by members of the team.
- Ensuring work performed by members in your team is in accordance with the processes and procedures manuals in place for the various services.
- Supporting other managers within the team with various administrative tasks and projects that arise from time to time.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- A strong academic history.
- ACA, CA, ACCA qualification or qualified by experience.
- Significant experience of statutory accounts gained within a professional services environment.
- Experience of working with entrepreneurial, OMB and SME clients.
- Demonstrable working knowledge of accounting standards.
- Good working knowledge of skill requirements of staff at various levels to ensure work is undertaken by the appropriate individual.
- Strong communication skills in order to liaise with clients, Directors, Partners, staff, and other professionals.
- Strong organisation & time management skills to ensure the needs of clients, partners and staff are all met.
- Monitoring costs against budget for individual clients.
